 This is a slide show presented to raise awareness of startling statistics. We have presented this when talking about RHRN to show how widespread these types of crisis are. Because we are showing a very dark side of many teen's lives, some of the images may be triggering to some dealing with issues such as self-injury and eating disorders. We hope that this can explain the prevalence of some of the most painful issues teens are facing today.

 Statistics 

  •  Over 51% of 8th grade students have tried alcohol. 
  • Over 80% of 12th grade students have tried alcohol.
  • In the last 30 days, 50% of teens have reported to have been drinking; 32% being drunk at least once
  • 30% of teens with depression also develop a substance abuse addiction
  • In the past 30 days, nearly 20% of high school students have used marijuana, and 34.3% in the past year
  • Over 5% of high school students have used cocaine
  • Up to 24 million people in the United States have an eating disorder
  • 1 in 5 women have eating disorders.
  • Over a million men have eating disorders
  • About half of teens with anorexia also struggle with bulimia
  • 1 in 5 females and 1 in 7 males have said they have purposely harmed themselves at some time
  • 90% of people who self injure started as a teen
  • 23% of teens and young adults struggle with self injury
  • Over an estimated 3,000,000 people  in the United States struggle with self injury
  • About 20% of teens will have depression before they reach adulthood
  • Teens and young adults are more likely than any other group to suffer from depression

  • Approximately 80% of people experiencing depression are not currently receiving any treatment.

  • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers

  • There are over 864,950 suicide   attempts each year in the United States
